The monumental temple paintings. The development of the canonical ensemble in the iconography. Reconstruction and restoration of paintings.
In Orthodoxy, every artifact has a deep symbolic, dogmatic and moral value. Therefore, the rules of monumental temple painting, which clearly reflect the spiritual image of religion, are strictly followed from the very moment of its publication in Stoglavy Cathedral in 1551. Exactly that time the artistic language, elaborated by Greek monks of Athos and combined ancient Byzantine tradition of modeling the form, which came from the Italian art of the Renaissance, has been adopted as a canon.
Masters - icon painters improved the stylistic features of the religious paintings for centuries - a special system of representation the space (the "reverse perspective"), a distinctive peculiarity of human body, the symbolism of color and gesture, chiaroscuro modeling of volumes. At the same time technological secrets of making and using picturesque materials, the sequence of painting the church, the main artistic techniques were accumulated, which contributed to achieve the resistance of paints from weather and durability of the monumental artwork in tote.
